Shiver on the River - Free Admission!

Visit the Shiver on the River eco fair! Friends of the Detroit River, in partnership with the Detroit Historical Society, will host the event inside the beautiful Dossin Great Lakes Museum from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. The typical $5 admission fee to visit the museum will be waived during the event. Enjoy indoor and outdoor activities for the whole family! Concessions available for cash purchases. 

No pre-registration is necessary for the eco fair.

Book Talk: Michelle Adams, The Containment

Michelle Adams, Henry M. Butzel Professor of Law at the University of Michigan and author of The Containment: Detroit, the Supreme Court, and the Battle for Racial Justice in the North, will be joined by Paul Dimond, Ann Arbor attorney and former Special Assistant to President Clinton for Economic Policy, in a conversation moderated by Peter J. Hammer, A. Alfred Taubman Endowed Chair at Wayne State University Law School. This discussion will delve into the 1974 Supreme Court case Milliken v.

This 22,000 square foot canal-front stucco mansion was built by Lawrence Fisher at a cost of $2.5 million in 1928. In 1975 it was jointly purchased by Alfred Brush Ford (great-grandson of Henry Ford) and Elisabeth Reuther Dickmeyer (daughter of UAW President Walter Reuther) for the Bhaktivendanta Cultural Center.

Tour the magnificent site and traditional Vedic Temple.
