Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating Detroit’s musical legacy! The night begins with a lively reception emceed by Greg Russell, movie reviewer from Live in the D on Local 4 Detroit, and featuring special guests Tino G. and producer Tony D'Annunzio. Then, settle in for an exclusive screening of the third episode of Tales from the D, celebrating the dynamic journey of saxophonist Dave McMurray—from his roots in Detroit’s vibrant jazz and funk scenes to his collaborations with global music icons, all while staying true to the soul of the city that shaped him.
The evening culminates in a dynamic live performance by the Kasan Belgrave Quintet, a standout group of Detroit jazz innovators led by multi-woodwind virtuoso Kasan Belgrave. Their sound fuses bebop, gospel, and modern fusion, delivering a fresh, soulful energy that reflects the spirit and evolution of Detroit’s jazz scene.

Saxophonist Dave McMurray's wide-ranging and extensive career began with blues legend Albert King. He formed his own group, Midnight Sky, and joined the avant-garde jazz ensemble Griot Galaxy. He later became a founding member of Was (Not Was), contributing to all their albums. As a session musician, McMurray has been in great demand, recording with artists like The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. He has performed with a remarkable lineup of legends, including B.B. King, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Bonnie Raitt, Gladys Knight, Bootsy Collins, Herbie Hancock, and more.
