The Detroit Symphony Orchestra performed its first subscription concert on December 19, 1887 at the Detroit Opera House. In 1919, the orchestra outgrew its modest beginnings and moved to acoustically perfect Orchestra Hall. Designed by renowned theater architect C. Howard Crane, the Hall would outlast war, economic strife, vacancy, and even the threat of demolition. Visit to see how the DSO continues to offer innovative and rich musical programming to Detroit and the world.
